After suffering an injury against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday, Timo Werner will be out for the rest of 2022.
Liepzig manager, Marco Rose said in an interview that Werner was in pain but according to the team medics had said, nothing serious appeared to be wrong, although he will have to undergo more detailed test, in comments reported by German agency dpa.
The German returned to Leipzig this season after a poor two year stint in Chelsea. Two of his former team mates; Ngolo Kante and Reece James will also miss the World Cup due to injury.
Germany manager Hansi Flick reacts to Werner injury, He said, “It’s very sad news. I feel really sorry for Timo(Werner) that he will miss a World Cup that he was determined to play at. Above all though, his absence is a big loss for the team. We all wish him a speedy recovery!”
Germany have other attackers to consider in the World Cup with players like Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Kai Havertz and Serge Gnabry all fighting for a place in the team frontline
